Privacy Policy
ShortTicks is a Chrome browser extension that summarizes YouTube videos using AI. This policy describes what data we collect, why we collect it, and what rights you have.
What We Collect
1. Device Identifier (UUID)
When you install ShortTicks, your browser generates a random identifier and stores it locally. This ID is sent to our backend solely to track your daily usage limits. It contains no personal information and cannot be linked to your identity.
2. Daily Usage Counts
We store how many summaries you have generated today, keyed to your device UUID. This record is automatically deleted within 48 hours.
3. Video Subtitle Text (Transcripts)
When you request a summary, the subtitle text of the video is sent to our backend (api.shortticks.com) for AI processing. Transcripts are not stored by us — they are forwarded to the AI provider in real time and discarded immediately after the summary is returned.
4. Video Title and Duration
Sent alongside the transcript to provide context to the AI model. Not stored.
What We Don't Collect
- Your name, email address, or any account information
- Your browsing history, including which YouTube videos you watch (only the specific video you explicitly summarize is processed)
- IP addresses (note: Cloudflare may process IPs at platform level, but ShortTicks application code does not log them)
- Any data from pages outside of YouTube
Third Parties
Cloudflare
Our backend runs on Cloudflare Workers and our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes request metadata (including IP addresses) at the platform level for security and abuse prevention, per their Privacy Policy. ShortTicks itself does not log or store IP addresses in our application data.
Anthropic (via TikHub API Gateway)
Transcript text is forwarded to Anthropic's Claude AI model for summary generation. We use TikHub as an API gateway provider. Anthropic does not train models on customer API data by default (see anthropic.com/privacy). TikHub's data handling is governed by their terms at tikhub.io.
Data Retention
Daily usage quota records are automatically expired within 48 hours. No transcript or video content is retained after your summary is generated.
Your Rights
You may request deletion of your device's usage record at any time by emailing us with your device UUID (visible in the extension's local storage under the key deviceId). Since we store only an anonymous identifier, deletion is immediate and requires no identity verification.
